Garden Walk Preview A North Beverly garden offers a peaceful retreat, with boxwood, juniper, holly, arborvitae, and pine shrubs along with several deciduous varieties. A meandering stream flows through the garden, leading to a gentle waterfall. An intriguing landscape, designed in the 1960’s, was rediscovered and brought back to life by a central Beverly couple. Originally part of “Horse Thief Hollow”, where horse smugglers hid out in the 1800’s, this landscape includes a plunging ravine, reached by multi-level patio and stone paths. This yard features a Japanese Dry Garden, a Bonsai-shaped Pine tree and Asian inspired plantings, including Japanese Maples, Junipers and Hemlock. A lush East Beverly garden overflows with layers of rhododendron, azaleas and roses. This garden spreads over the property and spills out at its borders with textured foliage, adding further depth and dimension. An arbor beyond the swimming pool leads to a secret garden, filled with colorful and bountiful flowers. Local floral experts have designed their garden to highlight their koi-filled pond. Japanese Maples and hostas surround the stone path and wooden bridge enveloping the pond. This garden also includes a chicken coop, for the gardeners’ new brood of chickens. Other gardens on this years’ walk include container gardening, shade gardens and more water features. Our neighborhood gardens continue to “go green” with environmentally sound gardening practices on display. Oak Sponsors Munro Landscape, 10057 S. Visitors can learn how to create their own natural fertilizing compost from normal kitchen waste. Watercolor Raffle As a special celebration of the Garden Walk’s 25th anniversary, an original watercolor painting by Jack Simmerling will be raffled. This beautiful painting displays ivy cascading over a plaster fresco, and is based on a design featured in one of the gardens on the 2011 Garden Walk.
